Lantern to stage shows at Unity Theatre following closure

Liverpool’s Lantern Theatre Productions will present four shows at the Unity Theatre following the closure of its Blundell Street venue.

Four new plays will be staged at the Hope Place theatre during September to kick off the Lantern’s new season – the first since it vacated its permanent home.

The arts organisation closed the doors of the Baltic Triangle venue for the final time on 31 July following the sale of the building, but told Your Move earlier this year that it was looking to remain part of the creative district’s community as it searched for a new base.

Announcements have yet to be made on where Lantern Theatre Productions will set up home next, but the group is currently preparing to stage ‘One More Unfortunate’ on 10 September, ‘Ghost Street’ on 17 September, ‘The Brink’ on 20 September and ‘The Lima Syndrome’ on 21-22 September.

Ahead of the shows, Lantern Theatre director Margaret Connell says: “We are delighted to be taking the Lantern Theatre’s unique brand of new and emerging theatre down the road to the Unity. All of the plays have been developed at the Lantern, we really look forward to presenting our productions to new Liverpool audiences.”

Matthew Linley, artistic director and CEO of Unity Theatre, says: “We have always had a brilliant relationship with the Lantern and we look forward to hosting their next set of productions here at Unity Theatre.

“Both Unity Theatre and the Lantern Theatre are committed to being the accessible platform for Liverpool City Region’s emerging artists and I can’t wait to see these four great home-grown performances in September.”
