Eric’s transformed into Laughterhouse comedy club

Liverpool’s Laughterhouse Comedy will open a brand new club on Mathew Street in November, it has been announced.

The live comedy provider, which already hosts popular stand-up nights at The Slaughter House and the Philharmonic Hall, has converted the former music club Eric’s into a purpose built 200-seater comedy venue.

Eric’s was a pioneering venue and launched artists in the 1970s including Elvis Costello and The Clash to The Ramones and The Sex Pistols and will now play host to some of the biggest names in national comedy following its refurbishment.

With preparations underway for a 27 November launch event featuring MC Chris Cairns, Neil Fitzmaurice, Jo Caulfield and Matt Richardson; Laughterhouse Comedy’s owner, Paula Harrington, says: “We are delighted to be opening a purpose built comedy venue on the world famous Mathew Street.

“We believe this space could become one of the finest comedy rooms in the UK and it is a perfect sister venue to our successful Slaughter House venue.”

Laughterhouse Comedy has also teamed up with nearby restaurants Olive and Piccolino to offer guests pre-show meal deals, and a disco and live vocalists will also follow comedy acts at each of the venue’s shows.

Other comedians including Phil Nichol, Tanyalee Davis and Tom Stade are lined up to perform in the near future at the club, which is said to be “spacious enough to accommodate group bookings, yet is intimate enough to ensure an ideal comedy atmosphere”.
