Venues and retailers around Liverpool are celebrating Record Store Day 2016 with a series of special events on Saturday 16 April.

The Jacaranda is opening its doors early to mark the occasion, selling records from 10am and delivering 12 hours of free entertainment, including live performances and DJ sets.

Thom Morecroft will perform a daytime acoustic set in the basement, followed by sessions from Daniel Saleh, Rossa Murray, The American Hitmen, and more, as well as various DJs until 2am.

Meanwhile, Slater Street store 3B Records will play host to a free live performance from Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley and his band from 5pm.

Elsewhere, the Liverpool Small Cinema is running an evening of short films celebrating collaborations between local musicians and filmmakers from 7pm. Admission is priced at £2-£3.

Earlier in the day, the micro-cinema will play Chris Paul Daniels’ remix of the Virgin Records video archive on a loop, backed by a soundtrack from Kelvin Brown. Punters are invited to drop in and out as they please between 12pm and 6pm for free or stop by the café for vinyl-spinning opportunities.

Record Store Day, an annual celebration of independent music store and vinyl culture, was founded in 2007. A number of special records are pressed exclusively for the event, distributed only to participating stores.

Other Liverpool music shops participating in this year’s event include Probe Records and Dig Vinyl, as well as Kaleidoscope Records in St Helens and Southport’s Quicksilver Music.
