Liverpool City Council has launched an initiative to better inform the public about roadworks around the city.
The ‘Better Roads’ scheme will use print, broadcast, the web and social media to keep motorists, residents and visitors up to speed on highway maintenance.
The campaign aims to highlight when and where major schemes are taking place, flag up alternative routes and explain why the maintenance is needed.
A range of major roadworks are scheduled to take place in Liverpool over the next four years, including a scheme on Scotland Road related to Project Jennifer and the closure of part of the A565 Great Howard Street from July to replace a worn-out bridge.
Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, cabinet member for regeneration, says: “This campaign is designed to keep people as informed about the work we are doing and how they can take steps to minimise the disruption it causes to their journeys.
“We can’t promise that we can stop people being delayed, but what we can do is let them know when and where the work is taking place, so they can use an alternative route or allow more time for their journey.
“It is also about explaining to people that works aren’t being carried out in isolation but are part of a much bigger picture which have economic benefits for the city. Ultimately this is about ensuring people and goods can move efficiently and make our city a more desirable place to live, work, visit and do business.”
