Liverpool City Council has announced plans to introduce new guidelines for companies shooting film and television projects in the city centre.
The local authority has pledged to work with residents in the Georgian Quarter, which includes Hope Street, Falkner Square and Rodney Street, to minimise disruption when filming is taking place.
This will involve opening up dialogue between production companies, local businesses and residents to ensure the shooting schedule takes each party’s needs into account, a council spokesperson tells Your Move.
Word of the new guidelines follows confirmation that a record number of film and TV productions were shot in Liverpool last year, with a report submitted to the Culture and Tourism Select Committee suggesting the industry contributed £11.5 million to the local economy in 2015.
Key projects include ‘Harry Potter’ prequel ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, which filmed scenes at St George’s Hall and the Cunard Building, and ‘Rocky’ spinoff ‘Creed’, which features a segment captured at Everton FC’s home stadium Goodison Park.
Meanwhile, ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant recorded footage at Water Street and Sky1 drama ‘The Five’ was shot on location around Merseyside.
Liverpool City Council has also revealed plans to introduce a film permit based on best practice of the London Boroughs which facilitate filming, a move that is expected to generate an additional £10,000 in revenue.
