A popular music festival is heading to Liverpool this summer after organisers confirmed the event will relocate from Birmingham.
Taking place on the banks of the River Mersey at Otterspool Promenade, Fusion Festival is teaming up with Capital Liverpool to bring a ‘huge dash of pop magic’ to the city.
Set to be held on 3 and 4 September, the full line-up will be announced in April but last year saw Ed Sheeran, Rudimental and McBusted headline while The Vamps also performed to over 50,000 festival goers.
Damien Sanders, event director of Fusion Festival, says: “We are so excited to finally announce that Fusion is coming to Liverpool. We have been working behind the scenes with Capital on plans for months now and it feels great to finally reveal all. Liverpool is such a vibrant, fun city that we can’t wait to become part of its musical fabric – exciting times indeed.”
The move follows the city being declared a City of Music by UNESCO last December, which recognised Liverpool’s musical offering and how it places music at the heart of the city.
Liverpool’s culture director, Claire McColgan, says: “We’re delighted that Fusion Festival is heading to Liverpool and it’s a real coup that this city is going to host yet another major music event this year which will bring with it a creative and economic boost to the area.
“We’re massively proud of the fact that commercial operators with the calibre of Fusion are looking at Liverpool to stage their events – it’s in line with our UNESCO City of Music status and reinforces the fact that we place music at the heart of Liverpool’s contemporary culture.”
