The final preparations are underway at Rack and Dollar on Berry Street, as the American-themed sports bar opens its doors for the first time.

Your Move magazine has been given a preview of the new bar, which was previously called Diablos, 24 hours before it is set to welcome in its first customers. Originally called Diablos, the bar was originally due to open in January but a change of concept – and a new business partner from the team that runs Berry and Rye bar across the road –  means Rack and Dollar is ready to open its doors.

Darren Gilligan, who is one half of the team behind the bar, says its will cater for small and large groups with a number of big screens showing everything from table tennis to the top US sports such as NFL. The bar will also have a number of firsts for the city, says Darren.

“It’s not just a football bar,” he explains. “We want to show all sorts of sports here. There are booths and big screens, as well as the first video jukebox in the city. It has over two million songs and once you select one it will play the video – going all the way back to the 1950s.”

As an American-themed bar, it will specialise in bourbon, with 64 different types available. It will also offer large sharing plates and American-style food options including build-your-own burgers from £9 to ribs and chicken wings. The bar will also host food challenges ranging from the 54321 burger challenge (five patties in a monstrous bun) to spicy chicken wings and a 5lb nacho challenge. Winners will get a t-shirt and a name on the Hall of Fame, while unsuccessful customers get a place on the Wall of Shame.

Meanwhile, on Mondays unlimited ribs will be offered for a flat fee of around £20 – with no time limit on the deal. Food, which includes breakfast options, will be served until 1pm.

The venue also boasts two American pool tables and several English pool tables, as well as a luxurious VIP room capable of holding 35 people, with a private big screen, Playstation game system and striking black and white pool table. It can be booked for sports events, cocktail classes and private parties, and has its own bar. Darren says plans for a bourbon tasting club are also underway at the venue.

Decked out in exposed brick and with US paraphernalia such as an eagle statue behind the bar, it will also host funk and jazz bands on weekends. With last-minute touches taking place at the venue and bookings taken for events such as the Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao boxing match, the venue is set to be the latest bar on the Liverpool scene.
