Sheltered accommodation planned for former pub site

A former pub on Liverpool’s Utting Avenue could be demolished to make way for new sheltered accommodation and a care home.

Under plans recommended for approval by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee next week, the Clarence Hotel site would be turned into a three-storey, 74-bed older person’s care home and a four-storey block of sheltered accommodation providing 24 homes.

The plans, submitted by Clarence View Lodge Limited, would see the development of a ‘T’ shaped care home with the main frontage facing onto Cherry Lane, which would feature en suite facilities with rooms as well as communal and recreational space and a car parking area.

Meanwhile the proposed sheltered accommodation block would incorporate self-contained homes with bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and living areas.

Two bowling greens and a railway line sit behind the Clarence Hotel building, and to the front of the site acing onto Utting Avenue there’s a single-storey William Hill betting office which would remain in place under the plans.

The surrounding area is also said to be “characterised by semi-detached and terraced residential properties,” with other commercial premises also nearby.

According to a report to be discussed by the planning committee on Tuesday 5 April, the development “would be a positive contribution to the area and would not have any detrimental impact on the visual amenity of cause harm to nearby residents”.
