Social housing lined up for former Wirral pub site

A vacant public house in Wirral could be bulldozed to make way for social housing under new plans.

The joint venture from Lane End Developments and Liverpool Mutual Homes would see 36 apartments built at the former home of The Archers public house in Bromborough.

The proposed complex would comprise 12 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom apartments for social rent.

Located on Mark Rake, the site in question sits within a suburban village neighbourhood with public green space and semi-detached housing in the vicinity.

Issued to Wirral Council, the planning application states that the development’s design would take the surrounding buildings into account and aims to raise the “architectural quality of the area”.

A statement from the report reads: “This part of Bromborough has been relatively unchanged since it was first developed and this proposal will help deliver new residential developments in the area, effectively further expanding the housing offer available in the area, in terms of both housing choice and tenure.

“The scheme will deliver high quality affordable housing which will provide much needed new homes thereby allowing local people to remain living and working within their neighbourhood.”

The proposals are said to have received a “positive” reception during a pre-application meeting.
