Plans to build a striking four-storey apartment scheme on Carnatic Road in Mossley Hill have been recommended for approval by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee.
Under proposals from applicant Kevin Crickett, the existing property at 5 Carnatic Road would be demolished and replaced with a new development comprising 18 three-bedroom flats including two penthouse units.
A document submitted as part of the planning application states that the scheme would be a “catalyst to promote further high quality contemporary developments in the surrounding area” and that “rather than a generic apartment block, the proposal is an elegant design solution”.
The document adds: “The scheme does not attempt to mimic the ‘Victorian look-a-like’ villa which is evident along Carnatic Road, and instead defines a new contemporary interpretation of a high quality apartment block.”
The plans have been recommended for approval by the council’s planning committee when it meets virtually next Wednesday (4 November).
The case officer’s report reads: “The proposed new building embraces a truly contemporary design and would introduce a new architectural style into the conservation area rather than simply replicating what has gone before.
“Key features such as the sandstone boundary wall, spaciousness around the building and the majority of the trees would be maintained as they represent important characteristics of this part of the conservation area.”
Adam Hall, managing director of the scheme’s designers Falconer Chester Hall, adds: “It’s a confident, contemporary rendition of apartment living that uses the popular local palette of red sandstone.
“The development retains a large front and rear garden space and sits well within the established setting. The use of large balconies brings the outdoors into each home and will be a popular feature.”
