An outdoor tour of William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ is coming to the Liverpool City Region this summer.
MATE Productions’ take on the literary classic will kick off with a date at Prescot Woodland Theatre on the grounds of Prescot Parish Church before visiting other open-air venues in Merseyside.
Supported by Arts Council England, the Granada Foundation and Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, ‘The Tempest’ features live music by professional composers and musical directors Taran and Aimee Harris, pyrotechnics by Holly Blue, design by Alice Verity Smith and Jane Allen, and choreography by Beverley Edmonds.
The production is directed and produced by Gaynor La Rocca in partnership with the Shakespeare North Trust and in association with the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company).
The Prescot premiere shows will take place on 10 and 11 June before the show returns to the venue on 15 July, visiting numerous other city region locations in between.
Other venues include St James Gardens at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Sudley House Garden in Mossley Hill, St Nicholas Church Gardens in Halewood, Croxteth Hall Walled Garden and Ness Gardens in Neston.
The tour will conclude with a finale show at The Dell at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon.
MATE Productions has been working with local primary and secondary schools to give youngsters an introduction to ‘The Tempest’ via a series of pop-up performances.
