Whether it be pizza, pasta, tapas or gelato, it seems the Italians can do no wrong when it comes to food. With this in mind, we’ve recommended a host of restaurants which are sure to bring a taste of Italy to your doorstep.
Casa Italia, Stanley Street, L1
The Casa Italia Pizzeria and Pastificcio is one of Liverpool’s longest established eateries and is always bustling with hungry customers. Although you may have to wait for a table, you’re served with fresh ingredients, generous portions and authentic Italian wine for an affordable price. With traditional Italian interior, you could close your eyes and be whisked away to Venice, Rome or Tuscany.
Tucked away on Wood Street, this Italian gem is not known by many. The family-run restaurant provides a rustic feel, and aspires to transport customers to the cobbled streets of Rome. With a wide variety of dishes ranging from antipasti, pizzas or pastas, you’ll be spoilt for choice in this authentic eatery.
Little Italy, Smithdown Road, L15
If it’s something a bit different you’re looking for then Little Italy is the place to go. Serving Italian tapas rather than the traditional pizzas and pastas, it brings you flavours from all over the country. From Sicilian ribs to Tuscan chicken and Napoli sauce, the menu will have your taste buds tingling before the food even gets to your table.
Carluccio’s, Met Quarter, L1
This restaurant/cafe first opened to provide great quality, authentic Italian food at reasonable prices, and this outlook still remains today. From the outside it looks like an Italian deli/cafe, but walk inside and you are met with the freshest ingredients and delicious smells. It also serve breakfast such as the Breakfast Magnifica; including smoky pancetta, sausage, mushrooms and fresh Italian bread. If it’s a quick fix or an elegant meal you’re after, Carluccio’s is the place.
Olive, Castle Street, L2
This basement-level eatery never disappoints. With traditional dishes accompanied with excellent service, you can’t really go wrong. Surrounded by a warm and rustic atmosphere, the cosy restaurant provides an authentic Italian experience hard to beat. The specialities are made from the char grill and brick fired oven, whilst handmade pastas and pizzas are always a safe but enjoyable choice.

Amalia, 2 Campbell Square, L1
This small independent restaurant is likened to a traditional Italian Trattoria, serving hearty meals for reasonable prices. The restaurant is also known for its calzone challenge, where diners compete to finish the mammoth pizza to get it for free. And if that’s not enough, there’s also a huge menu of pizzas, pastas and traditional carne dishes to keep you full.
L’Olivetto, Rose Lane, L18
This relatively new Italian outside the city centre serves both Italian tapas and main dishes, with its slogan stating ‘we’re seriously Italian’. This gem has something for everyone. Its deserts are always rated, including their Italian classis, Tiramisu, and the raspberry Panna cotta.

The Italian Club Fish, Bold Street, L1
Following the success of their sister venue, The Italian Club, this ‘fish cafe’ is influenced by the owners Scottish-Italian background. All of their dishes are prepared fresh, so don’t be surprised if some of the dishes run out. This quaint restaurant pays homage to all that fish and chips have given to the owners, whilst marrying it with the Mediterranean seafood specialities.
