Allerton’s food and drink scene is set to receive a further boost with the arrival of two new eateries.

The South Liverpool area, which is already a hub of out-of-town restaurants and bars, will see the arrival of a new venture from the team behind Baltic Bakehouse in the coming weeks.

Launching on Allerton Road on 13 October,  Furrow will replace the business’ pop-up bakery which has been selling its signature fresh bread along the same street, and will also serve up a daytime menu for hungry visitors.

Ahead of the opening Sam Henley from Baltic Bakehouse, which continues to run its original café and bakery on Bridgewater Street in the Baltic Triangle, says: “Our pop-up has been open for over a year now and has been very well received. We wanted to continue our approach of bringing really great bread to Allerton Road, but expand to offer the fantastic food and coffee  available at our Bridgewater Street bakery.”

Pastries, buns, doughnuts and any other sweet treats will be on the menu, alongside a “modern European menu of breakfast, brunch and lunch items”.

Meanwhile, work is currently underway to transform a Booker Avenue butchers in the area into a new contemporary café/bar called Butchers.

Nick Jones, who is behind the new eatery, says the building’s original character is being restored and the décor will provide a nod to the site’s former use.

He says: “Our interior design team will ensure that the ambience will bring memories flooding back. Minton Victorian floors that have been uncovered under two layers of quarry tile, and wall tiles carefully restored, with plenty of charm and butchers’ memorabilia hanging off the meat rails with old French antique butchers scales, and early 20th Century selected timeless pieces to give you the feel that you have stepped back in time.”

The menu will offer hot drinks, breads and snacks by day, with world beers, wines, a tapas-style menu and sharing boards by night.

Both venues  follow the arrival of other recent additions to the Allerton area, including Moo Steakhouse.
