England Boxing: 2016 Elite National Finals

The country’s best male and female boxers will lock horns at the 129th Elite National Championships. The tournament will take place over three days, culminating in the grand final on 1 May.

British-Scandinavian trio Phronesis bring their unique brand of piano-led jazz to Liverpool Hope University’s Capstone Theatre. They arrive in the city off the back of successful shows in Morocco, Brazil and across Europe.

Michael Bolton brings his greatest hits library to Liverpool, performing favourites from his back catalogue as well as anthems from classic movies including ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Casablanca’. The bill also includes special guest Gabrielle.

Writing on the Wall Festival 2016

A celebration of all things wordy, the 2016 edition of WoWfest explores sci-fi, superheroes, graphic novels and comics. Guests include Isy Suttie of ‘Peep Show’, ‘Watchmen’ artist Dave Gibbons and comedian Alexei Sayle.

The Joke

A new play from Brian Logan, Lloyd Hutchinson and Will Adamsdale hits the Unity Theatre for a two-day run. The show explores jokes, why we tell them and how an Englishman, Irishman and Scottish man came to be trapped in one for all these years.

Everyman Theatre
A new live solo show from Shôn Dale-Jones that aims to raise money for child refugees, The Duke is described as “a funny and poignant show which playfully mixes fantasy and reality”.

Pattie Boyd: George, Eric and Me
The Beatles Story, Pier Head
An array of candid photos of George Harrison and Eric Clapton from the collection of the woman who shared their lives goes on display at The Beatles Story. Pattie Boyd was married to the former Beatle between 1966 and 1977, and to Clapton between 1979 and 1999.
6-8 May
Steam on the Dock
Albert Dock
A convoy of steam-powered vehicles will roll into Albert Dock for this family event dedicated to the transportation behemoths of a bygone age. Highlights include the UK’s first inner-city steam rally and the relaunch of the Daniel Adamson tugboat.
