Fans of sci-fi to superheroes will be in for a treat this year as Writing on the Wall has unveiled its 2016 festival theme.

Organisers are hoping to reach the biggest audience yet for the annual WoW Fest writing and literature festival as a programme of events across Liverpool explores graphic novels, comic books, technology and space.

A time machine will travel around the city during the May festival, which is also set to feature a superheroes themed project across local schools and will explore topics including girls’ comics, what sci-fi teaches us about climate change and the effects of smartphones and surveillance.

Mike Morris, co-ordinator of the festival, says: “The festival is growing every year and this year we’re trying to reach out to new and bigger audiences.”

This year the Write Blend book shop in Waterloo will also be supporting WoW Fest with a host of fringe events, and the festival will continue to showcase up and coming writers.

Leading literary names heading to WoW Fest, which attracted prominent writers and poets including Jon Ronson, Owen Jones and Lemn Sissay in 2015, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
