A modern apartment complex could be built on vacant land in Kirkdale under new plans submitted to Liverpool City Council.

Proposals for a residential development comprising 33 flats on a brownfield site bounded by Stanley Road, Lancaster Street and Great Mersey Street have been revealed.

The apartments would be a mixture of one and two-bedroom accommodation while the building itself is envisioned as a “sympathetic” scheme which draws influence from the surrounding architecture, such as the Georgian terrace nearby.

The site in question has been vacant since demolition work was carried out there in 2005.

The development site is bounded by Stanley Road, Lancaster Street, and Great Mersey Street

A statement issued to the council reads: “The scale of the building has been carefully considered so that it sympathetically complements the character of the area.

“Specifically it draws precedent from the adjacent Georgian terrace. It echoes the raised ground floor of the terraces and vertically terminates below the ridge line of the Georgian terraces. This creates an amicable dialogue between the two buildings, strengthening the character of the area, and paying homage to the history of the street.”

The development, which would include landscaping and the creation of parking facilities, aims to complement other regeneration schemes in Kirkdale and drive further improvements for the area.
