A new apartment complex could be built on the outskirts of the city centre under plans submitted to Liverpool City Council.

Proposals to demolish the existing buildings at 9-27 Freemasons Row in the L3 area and replace them with private rented sector flats have been revealed.

A total of 656 apartments would be based across four 11 to 15-storey interconnected blocks with commercial space on the ground floor, an on-site gym and landscaping also planned.

Under the terms of the planning application, the ground-floor commercial space could play host to bars, restaurants, shops, professional services, offices or leisure facilities.

The application site is currently occupied by a commercial premises owned by construction machinery firm John Sutch Cranes, which has submitted the plans in conjunction with Vinco Group.

The company’s Liverpool team was based at the building until January of this year before it moved to new offices in Bootle.

John Sutch Cranes uses its former home to store equipment but no longer has staff based at the site.
