Discount retailer B&M is set to open a new store in Liverpool city centre – taking over a prominent vacant unit.

A spokesperson for the chain confirmed to YM Liverpool that it started fitting out the former Clas Ohlson store in Clayton Square this week and plans to open on 6 March – subject to no delays relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The confirmation is more good news for Clayton Square following the recent revelation that Flannels is to open a flagship store in the former Owen Owen building opposite.

B&M, which has its head office in Speke, has more than 600 stores throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – employing over 28,000 members of staff.

The discount chain today reported a strong sales performance for the 13 week period from 27 September 2020 to 26 December 2020, with its store revenue growing by over a quarter.

Simon Arora, chief executive, says: “Our trading performance is testament to the hard work and commitment of all our colleagues, to whom I express my sincere thanks.

“The safety and well being of our customers and colleagues has remained our priority during these unprecedented times, whilst we have worked hard to provide customers with the everyday essentials they need.

“We are awarding some 30,000 store and distribution colleagues an extra week’s wages in recognition of their considerable efforts.”
