Urban Splash co-founder Jonathan Falkingham MBE has been confirmed as the special guest at this year’s YM Liverpool Property & Business Awards.

The architect and regeneration figure will join YM Liverpool editor and awards organiser Lawrence Saunders for a special on-stage Q&A at the Titanic Hotel Liverpool on Wednesday 25 November.

The conversation will reflect on Jonathan’s career spanning more than four decades, his role in Liverpool’s transformation and the impact of Urban Splash on the city’s built environment.

It will also explore the company’s regeneration projects in Liverpool and beyond, including its involvement in plans for Festival Gardens, as well as the opportunities and challenges facing the property sector.

Originally from Bradford, Jonathan arrived in Liverpool in 1981 to study architecture, before going on to establish architectural practice shedkm and co-found Urban Splash with Tom Bloxham in 1993.

The company has since become one of the UK’s best-known regeneration specialists, delivering landmark projects including Park Hill in Sheffield, Royal William Yard in Plymouth and Fort Dunlop in Birmingham, alongside its extensive regeneration work in Liverpool.

Jonathan, who was awarded an MBE for services to architecture and urban regeneration in 2013, says: “I arrived in Liverpool in October 1981 to study architecture, just months after the Toxteth riots. I fell in love with the city and have watched it transform in the decades since.

“It’s the city in which I’ve set up three businesses: Baa Bar, shedkm and, of course, Urban Splash, which was born here in the early 1990s.

“Urban Splash, I’m proud to say, has had a great impact since. From our early work in the Ropewalks, to the Matchworks, the Collegiate and now Festival Gardens, Liverpool has shaped who we are as a business and has stayed close to my heart. It’s the place I call home and I’m looking forward to reflecting on that on the night.”

The YM Liverpool Property & Business Awards have been a fixture of the city region’s business calendar since 2004, celebrating the achievements of companies, developments and individuals across the property and business sectors.

This year’s ceremony will bring together leading figures from across the Liverpool City Region, with accolades presented in categories including Property Developer of the Year, Housebuilder of the Year, Apartment Development of the Year and Liverpool City Region Business of the Year.
