The home of architect Frank Atkinson, who designed the Adelphi Hotel, is up for sale for £1.1m.

The Blundellsands home, which was built in 1908 and described by Country Life magazine in the 1920s as a ‘lesser country house’ is home to some of the architect’s most extravagant designs. Called Redcot, it is one of the region’s most iconic and prestigious properties, with views over Blundellsands ‘Key Park’.

Built a year after the architect completed the design of the palatial Adelphi Hotel, which opened in 1912, the home was one of a number of buildings the renowned designer was involved in.

Estate Agent Clive Watkin has listed the six-bedroom property for sale. It says: “The imposing and impressive architectural features owe a great deal to the renowned Liverpool architect Frank Atkinson, and echoes of his design of both Selfridges in London and the Adelphi in Liverpool can be seen in Redcot.”

The property includes a ‘secret door’ to a butler pantry, extensive gardens with a rear lawn that once housed a tennis court, a wine cellar and striking marble and mahogany fireplaces, highlighting the architect’s eye for design.

The grand property, which includes an ornate entrance arch, was also included in Pevsner’s Architectural Guides of Great Britain because of its unique design and links to the Liverpool architect.
