Sutton Kersh’s brand and team will remain intact following Countrywide plc’s acquisition of the family business, according to auction director James Kersh.

Along with fellow Merseyside agent Clive Watkin, the long-running property firm which was originally set up in 1976 has now joined the nationwide Countrywide Group as it targets the region for expansion.

James, whose father Stewart Kersh originally set up Sutton Kersh on Stanley Street in Liverpool city centre, was appointed as managing director of the company in January this year.

The deal marks the latest development for Sutton Kersh which, over the years, has expanded its services to provide residential sales, lettings, property management, commercial property, auctions, mortgages, surveys, valuations and energy performance assessments across six offices.

Welcoming the move, James Kersh, who now takes the title of auction director, says: “We see this as a progressive marriage between two companies who share similar values.

“Countrywide is the largest and most successful property group in the UK and it widens the services we will offer to clients we’ve built up over 40 years of business. It also widens the opportunities to staff, with the support Countrywide can offer them in gaining further qualifications in the industry.”

Commenting further on how the agency, which was recently awarded the Best Letting Agency accolade at this year’s prestigious Your Move Property Awards, will look to clients moving forward, James adds: “The brand remains and, most importantly, the people in the building who serve our clients remain.”

Countrywide, which has also acquired established Welsh property business John Francis as part of its expansion, says Clive Watkin and Sutton Kersh will complement its Entwistle Green brand in Liverpool, which it regards as one of the leading cities outside of London for growth, as well as its Land and New Homes operation in the area.
