The former Republik bar in Liverpool city centre could become an American barbecue diner under new plans submitted to the council.

Red Dog Restaurants, which operates three eateries in London, has revealed ambitions to expand into Merseyside by moving to secure a site on Bold Street.

The company is aiming to set up shop at 66 Bold Street where Republik was based until the bar was shuttered in early 2015.

Red Dog’s plans to transform part of the former nightspot into a diner with a late licence are said to include only minimal alterations to the building.

Speaking about the firm’s plans to branch out into Liverpool, a Red Dog spokesperson tells Your Move: “We’ve always really liked Liverpool. It’s such a dynamic and fun place and we’re a big nightime going out type venue. It’s a lot of fun, so Liverpool was always a natural fit for us when moving outside of London for the first time.

“We always want to be in a busy nightlife area. We’re a restaurant but we do a lot of cocktails and play loud music. It’s a night out experience rather than just a restaurant.”

Red Dog Restaurants estimates that its proposed expansion into Liverpool will create 50 full and part-time jobs.
