Apartments planned for Grade II-listed Victoria Street building

Plans to convert part of a Grade II-listed building on Liverpool’s Victoria Street into new apartments have been revealed.

If approved, the 10 flats would sit above designer menswear store Union 22 and a new restaurant in currently vacant office space.

Proposals from applicant Pure Management for Union House include the creation of a two-storey roof extension, which would see the building increased to seven-storeys.

The 10 homes, which would be located from the ground floor upwards, are a mix of studio, one-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments.

Initial plans to transform the building’s upper floors into a 35-boutique hotel, which were awarded planning permission in June, have been shelved.

The proposed two-storey extension.

However, previously revealed plans for a basement restaurant are still going ahead with work reportedly well underway on renovating the space.

Designer menswear store Union 22, which opened earlier this year, will remain in situ as part of the new plans.

A document included with the planning application prepared on behalf of the applicant by DV Architects reads: “Due to the nature of the ever-changing market, the previous hotel scheme is not proving viable for our client and therefore they wish to seek an alternative approval.

“They are keen to develop the site/building immediately and don’t wish to leave the building empty for longer than necessary.

“They value the importance of the listed building and now seek permission to restore and convert the building into C3 Residential Use Class.”
