Asian café and takeaway chain heading for Liverpool’s Church Street

A new Japanese and Chinese café and takeaway is being lined up for Liverpool city centre’s Church Street.

Kokoro, a chain specialising in handmade sushi and hot Asian food which already has a number of branches in the south of the country, has applied to change the use of a retail unit.

A document submitted to Liverpool City Council’s planning department outlines the plans to transform a shop, which has been occupied by a memorabilia retailer, into a ground floor and first floor eatery and takeaway with toilets on the second floor.

The new food outlet is set to accommodate 30 to 40 diners inside with the majority of seating on the first floor.

A planning report by architect practice Unknown Design, which has been working on the planned Kokoro venue, says: “The unit sits in a busy shopping and leisure zone of Liverpool city centre and around and about there is a mix of outlets – the immediate area would benefit from a quality food offer in terms of café and takeaway.”

It adds: “The brand is that of high end handmade Japanese & Chinese food all prepared on the premises.”
