Best for alternative Valentines Day 2015 in Liverpool

If you’d rather not spend time with your significant other paying extortionate amounts for mid-range meal and squashed in between other romanticised couples on the most romantic day of the year, then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve collected the best of the alternative offerings Liverpool has to offer for the Valentine’s weekend.

13 Feb, Food Slam, Camp and Furnace, 6pm – late, Free entry

Camp and Furnace are adding an anti-Valentine kick to its traditional food slam events, with this expletive-labelled night of food and fun. Instead of stuffy three-course meals, browse different street food vans and dance all night long. In order to ramp up the anti-love agenda, there will be burlesque performances, tattoos and unspeakable circus acts. Who can say no to that?

13 Feb, Disco Glitter Love, Constellations, 9pm – 4am, £14

You can always depend somewhere in the Baltic Triangle to throw a stellar party. Constellations win the prize this year, with performances from Horse Meat Disco, MrPaul and Autocycle to allow you to shimmy the night away and declare your love to anyone who will dance with you.

13 Feb – 14 Feb, Love Folk Festival, The Atkinson, £36 for both days

The Atkinson is holding its first festival of folk to celebrate new, upcoming artists alongside traditional folk and roots music. Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson will be showcasing their critically acclaimed Air-Fix album on Friday night whilst Jackie Oates, the winner of several BBC folk awards will be playing at 6pm on Saturday, amongst others.

14 Feb, Waterloo Flea Market, Old Christ Church, 9am-1pm, 40p

‘Nothing haunts us like the vintage we don’t buy’. Skip the high street for presents and head to Waterloo’s flea market. With 40p entry, it’s easily the cheapest thing you can do on Valentine’s Day and you may end up scoring a special vintage bargain too.

14 Feb, Natural Born Killers, Nook & Cranny, 7pm, £16/ £9

Independent gift shop and occasional pop-up host Nook & Cranny is launching its new film club with the classic Valentine’s film, Natural Born Killers. Tickets are available for singles and couples, with each ticket including free drinks and popcorn, and the couples’ ticket also offers a Lovers loot bag to the mix.

14 Feb, Valentine’s Pudding Club, Oh Me Oh My, 6.30pm, £14.50

If food is the way to your heart, then try out Leaf’s Pudding Club this 14 February at its Water Street sister venue, Oh Me Oh My. Indulge in all things pudding and cake, with five courses of the homemade sweet stuff, matched with the perfect cup of tea. It’s certainly a different way to spend Valentine’s and a memorable one at that.
