Best for… Irish food

St Patrick’s Day is here and if you’re celebrating with a Guinness or two you’ll need some sustenance. Check out these three eateries for the best in Irish-themed food, from breakfast to evening meals.

Fully Irish

O’Neill’s, L1

One of the city’s most prominent Irish bars, O’Neill’s is a cornucopia of live music, sport and food. Even with a huge interior it is usually packed out at weekends, possibly because of the quality of its Irish fare. Try the delicious Irish breakfast – which is one of the few places in the city to enjoy white pudding along with the traditional meat and vegetables.

Glorious Guinness

The Slaughterhouse, L2

The Slaughterhouse is one of the city’s oldest bars and is now known for its after-work crowd and comedy club nights. It also sells a selection of Irish main courses including a filling steak and Guinness pie and Irish Stew, all available with a quality pint of the black stuff.

Celtic Coffee

O’Connor’s Bar and Grill, L17

O’Connor’s offers a selection of food from around the world but at its heart are Irish roots. This is evident in the liquor coffee menu, which includes the classic Irish coffee, a heady mix of whiskey, coffee and cream that has spread across the world. If whiskey isn’t your thing; choose from Tia Maria, brandy or a host of other liquors.
