Visitor numbers soar as Albert Dock hosts free events

Free events and new exhibitions helped Liverpool’s Albert Dock attract an increase in visitors in 2015, new figures have shown.

Throughout the year 6.3 million people headed to the Grade I-listed waterfront landmark, with the One Magnificent City celebrations to mark 175 years of Cunard, the Liverpool Pirate Festival and Tate Liverpool’s successful Transmitting Andy Warhol exhibition among events being credited with boosting numbers.

The total represents a 6% rise from the previous year and the site, said to be the most-visited free attraction in the North West, also welcomed 5,600 coaches which shows a 19% year on year growth.

The added number of visitors is believed to have provided an estimated £4.4m for the city’s economy.

Sue Grindrod, chief executive of Albert Dock, says: “We are elated with these figures as Albert Dock Liverpool enters its next evolution. Visitor and coach figures continue to rise year on year, while our attraction and food and beverage offer evolves and expands to meet the ever-growing needs of our visitors.”

Albert Dock, which welcomed the pay-per-minute Ziferblat café to its food and drink and cultural offering in 2015, is now preparing for the March launch of its new Mattel Play! Liverpool attraction.
