Brouhaha International will launch the inaugural Albert Dock Rum Festival on 7 and 8 March.

The arts organisation will open the celebration of the Caribbean spirit with drummers from Batala Liverpool, dancing and giant puppets from 3pm.

Once the celebrations are underway rum specialist, The Smugglers Cove will open its doors for a series of rum tastings from its collection, while a Caribbean steel drum band provides the entertainment and Caribbean food specials are on offer.

A selection of Albert Dock bars will serve rum-based cocktails over the two-day event, including Circo, Gusto, What’s Cooking, Vinea and Revolution. Costa Coffee will serve non-alcoholic, Caribbean-themed coolers and La Crepe Rit has created a rum-flavoured flambé for the festival.

Jeremy Roberts, chairman of the Albert Dock Tenants Business Association, says:

“The idea of the Albert Dock Rum Festival came about because we wanted to bring something exciting and a little bit exotic to the waterfront during the quieter, winter months.

“The Albert Dock Rum Festival is a nod to the days when Liverpool was the gateway to the world, when imported rum enriched the city’s fortunes, shaping it into the city we know and love today.”
