Calls for Help to Buy commitment in Autumn Statement

The government must pledge its ongoing commitment to the Help to Buy scheme when delivering today’s Autumn Statement, according to a Liverpool property developer.

New City Vision is calling for Chancellor Philip Hammond to continue backing the initiative and introduce new measures to help get more people onto the property ladder.

Sales manager Louise Craven says: “I think it’s important that the government continues its commitment to the Help to Buy scheme, but I would also like to see them introduce an alternative to it to help get more people onto the ladder and to move house. A different option would help keep momentum going in the sector.”

Louise also hopes extra funding for housebuilders will be set aside to help stimulate development activity across Liverpool.

She adds: “Additional funding to help housebuilders, encourage them to develop more and construct schemes in different areas would also boost the market, particularly within the Liverpool City Region.”

The Autumn Statement is an annual update on the Treasury’s plans for the economy delivered by the Chancellor.

Hammond’s first Autumn Statement since succeeding George Osborne is expected to include a number of measures which will affect the property market, including the abolition of letting fees and significant investment in affordable housing.
