A section of Liverpool’s Unity Theatre will be transformed into an “immersive events space” as part of its Christmas programme.

During December the venue’s upstairs auditorium will become The Dark Dark Wood and play host to a series of family-friendly events.

The transformation of Unity Two is being carried out to tie in with the theatre’s Christmas show ‘Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf’ and will run alongside the production.

Events taking place there include live music, Saturday Splatterdays workshops, a performance from Unity Youth Theatre and a site-specific sound installation.

Created in collaboration with Action Transport Theatre and LIPA theatre designer Katie Scott, and funded with a grant from the PRS Foundation, The Dark Dark Wood’s layout was inspired by visuals from ‘Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf’.

The programme will kick off with a performance by offbeat pop act The Aleph on 9 December and run throughout the month, concluding with the final Saturday Splatterdays workshop of the year.

The Saturday Splatterday events are free shows and workshops for all the family which the Unity regularly hosts, with December’s editions taking place in The Dark Dark Wood.
