Cinemas, landmarks and cultural venues across Liverpool are preparing to embrace the work of William Shakespeare this weekend as The Complete Walk takes place.
With just a couple of days to go until the city becomes the only destination outside of London to host the tribute to the bard, 34 venues are getting ready to screen a selection of specially commissioned films starring actors including Peter Capaldi, Jonathan Pryce and Meera Syal .
The free 23-24 April event, which is being held to mark the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s death, will see 10-minute short films play on a loop at venues ranging from sites in Granby 4 Streets and museums to St George’s Hall and prominent destinations on Albert Dock.
As the event takes shape, Liverpool’s director of culture, Claire McColgan, says: “It’s great to see so many venues in the city centre support this event – from hotels to civic buildings right through to restaurants and cultural attractions. Some of them have a real affinity with the play they are hosting – the courts at St George’s Hall’s fit in well with ‘The Merchant of Venice’ and Bluecoat’s balcony makes them the perfect home for ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
“We hope as many people make the most of this opportunity to see famous faces bring to life some of the Bard’s most famous works, in just 10 minutes.”
