Liverpool’s St James Mission Hall could be transformed into a ‘community hub’ providing arts and educational activities and a café under new plans.
The 19th Century Windsor Street building would be re-opened as ‘The L8 Hub’ if an application for change of use to the site, as well as alterations to improve access and energy efficiency is approved.
Liverpool 8 Law Centre Legacy Project is behind the plans to adjust the building, which was previously altered in 2001 so that it could function as an annexe to Toxteth TV, which has a main building based across Windsor Street.
A document submitted to Liverpool City Council within the planning application says: “The Mission Hall is being re-opened as a local community hub to provide local history/archive; education; arts activities including exhibitions, screenings, etc; and café (unlicensed). This application is to further that aim.
“The building has functioned as a community-based cultural centre since 2001 and the renovated building will continue this role, albeit with more emphasis on public access.”
