EU stay ‘will help property market prosper’

The Liverpool property market is likely to prosper if Britain remains in the European Union, according to a local agent.

Andrew Louis managing director Louis Anastasiou predicts the growing population and increase in tourism will boost the sector if the country maintains ties with the EU.

He tells Your Move: “If we vote to remain in the EU it will be back to business relatively quickly and the Liverpool property market will continue to prosper due to growing population, increase in tourism and strong demand.”

Louis goes on to say leaving the EU will cast the Liverpool property market into uncertainty and may result in lower property prices due to a decrease in immigration.

He adds: “If we vote out I don’t think anyone has quite worked out what that means other than uncertainty.

“Maybe Brexit may result in lower property prices if immigration from Europe fell.”

Britain will hold a referendum next week (23 June) to determine whether the country will remain in the EU. Check out our Europe: In or out? feature for more insight into how Brexit could affect the property market.
