Everton pub could be cleared to make way for new homes

A fire damaged Everton pub could be demolished to make way for 30 new homes addressing housing needs in the area.

Proposals to transform the site of the Strawberry Tavern on Breckfield Road South have been put forward to Liverpool City Council.

According to a planning application submitted by M.C.I. Developments Limited and Liverpool Investment Solutions Limited, the one-bedroom apartments would be developed within a single three-storey block and managed by Riverside Housing Group.

The energy efficient properties would be accompanied by car parking spaces and cycle storage facilities.

A document within the application says: “The site comprises a vacant and fire damaged public house which is in need of demolition and clearance and the proposed subsequent redevelopment will improve the area and make the best use of the site.

“The 30 new homes are much needed and the intention is that they will all, once constructed, be managed by Riverside Housing Group. These new homes will help to contribute towards addressing the identified need for more new housing in the Everton Ward.

“Riverside Housing Group will use its own funding resources to help deliver this scheme. This funding will enable the scheme to be delivered within a short time frame should approval be granted.”
