South Liverpool could soon be welcoming its first specialised footgolf course after plans for a new facility on the site of a former Netherley secondary school were revealed.

The proposed development by OTB Concepts Limited includes a new clubhouse which would provide players with changing rooms and a café.

Based on the site of the former Lee Manor High School, the nine-hole footgolf course will run alongside the existing nine-hole traditional golf course.

The new course is one of several in the pipeline across the region alongside facilites in Aintree, Wallasey and Arrowe Park.

Played with a standard sized football on holes slightly shorter than traditional golf, footgolf, as you may have guessed, is a combination of football and golf, the aim being to kick the ball into the ‘cup’ in as few shots as possible.

The hybrid sport is particularly popular in America where over 250 courses offer the game whilst here in the UK footgolf is in the final stages of being officially recognised by Sport England with plans afoot to introduce a proper league structure.
