Former referee to unveil football hub at St John Bosco

Former Premier League referee Chris Foy will unveil St John Bosco Arts College’s new £1 million football hub this week.

The ex-football official will make an appearance at the launch of the sports facility – which will be used by community groups as well as the school – on Friday (23 September).

Made possible thanks to a £637,245 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, the hub includes a floodlit third generation artificial grass pitch and a state-of-the-art changing room pavilion.

Available to use until 10pm, the pitch will offer a full sized senior 11 v 11 playing field which can be divided into two 7 v 7 pitches, two 9 v 9 pitches or four 5 v 5 pitches.

Community groups including AFC Warner, Liverpool County Primary League, Merseyside Christian League and local primary schools will make use of the facility, which is a key part of Football Foundation and Liverpool FA’s Football Development Plan.

The project aims to increase female participation in football across the city by more than 40% over the next five years.

The Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 204 grants worth £15m towards grassroots sports projects worth over £55m across the whole of Liverpool since 2000.
