Free Lunchtime Concerts series to get underway in Liverpool

A new quartet-in-residence will kick off an autumn season of free Lunchtime Concerts at the Victoria Gallery & Museum tomorrow (Wednesday 28 September).

Solem Quartet, the winners of the prestigious 2014 Royal Overseas League Chamber Competition, will perform between 1pm and 2pm as they begin their new residency within the University of Liverpool’s Department of Music.

Future weeks will see the Lunchtime Concerts series host the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Trio D’anches on 5 October and a session of Live Painting and Improvised Music on 12 October.

The William Byrd Consort will then join five members of the Anglican and Metropolitan Cathedral choirs on 19 October and on 26 October, 14 musicians from seven countries and three continents will perform as Världens Band.

The line-up of free Lunchtime Concerts will continue throughout November and early December too, and co-ordinator Dr Helen Thomas says: “This series has established itself as one of the major events in the cultural calendar of Liverpool.

“It is an example of the high quality public engagement that the university has with the city and is a great chance for the public, staff and students to relax for an hour at the pivotal point in their busy week.”

All of the events are free but booking is recommended. For further information visit www.liverpool.ac.uk/music/events/lunchtime-concert-series
