Last chance to see popular animal mummies

A unique exhibition exploring ancient Egyptian animal mummies is entering its final few weeks at Liverpool’s World Museum.

More than 100,000 people have visited ‘Animal Mummies Revealed’ since it opened to the public last October.

The exhibition, which closes on 26 February, features an array of rare mummified specimens including jackals, crocodiles, cats and birds alongside artwork, photographs and ancient Egyptian artefacts.

Visitors are being invited to attend a day of free ancient Egypt themed activities inspired by the exhibition this Saturday (28 January).

The special event will include Egyptian mummy wrapping demonstrations and a reconstruction of the infamous cat mummy auction of 1890 which took place in Liverpool.

Dr Ashley Cooke, the exhibition’s curator, says: “We’re thrilled that Animal Mummies Revealed has been so popular, with visitors enjoying the mummies that have come in all shapes and sizes, and not always what they first seem.

“The exhibition has been a good pre-cursor to the new ancient Egypt gallery at World Museum that is currently being renovated and refurbished to include more amazing objects and displays. It re-opens in the spring, so visitors won’t have to wait long.”
