The £40 million redevelopment of Wolstenholme Square took a major step forward yesterday (10 February) with work starting on the site of the famous Nation nightclub.
Mees Demolition is on site carrying out demolition work, with developer Elliot Group expected to announce a main contractor later this month.
The mixed-use scheme will create 447 studio and one-bedroom apartments as well as a new passageway through to Seel Street, lined by shops, cafés and workspaces for independent businesses.
Nation, the home of Cream, will move into a new underground home constructed as part of the scheme.
The new multi-room venue is expected to create an exciting live music venue for the city whilst maintaining the nightclub’s ‘industrial’ feel.
Elliot Group also recently revealed plans for a proposed new boutique hotel in the Wolstenholme Square area, having acquired a former surface car park on Seel Street.
