The £40 million redevelopment of Liverpool’s Wolstenholme Square will begin next week when a group of low-grade post-war warehouses are demolished.
Contractor Newry Construction has been appointed to undertake the works by developer Elliot Group on the site of the famous Cream nightclub, which will move into a new underground home constructed as part of the mixed-use scheme.
A selection process is currently underway for Wolstenholme Square’s main contractor, with the project’s professional team now appointed for the Falconer Chester Hall-designed development scheme.
White Young Green has been appointed as the employer’s agent and project managers and Clancy has been appointed civil and structural engineers while Abacus are the scheme’s service engineers.
Neil Swanson, of Landscape Projects, will collaborate with international artist Jorge Pardo to deliver the refurbishment of the square’s famous ‘Penelope’ sculpture and associated works to the public areas, with the Liverpool office of Hill Dickinson solicitors managing the project’s contracts.
The development will deliver five blocks ranging in height from three to 10 storeys, providing 447 studio and one bedroom apartments as well as a new passageway through to Seel Street, lined by shops, cafés and offices.
