Local graffiti artist creates Ropewalks Square mural

Local graffiti artist DEAD took to Ropewalks Square during the lunchtime rush to paint a mural in front of dozens of onlookers.

The illustrator was commissioned to create the piece by the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) and will return to the site around mid-morning today (15 September) to complete the work.

DEAD created the large scale artwork ahead of this year’s RBMA Tour which debuts in Liverpool from 6-9 October with guests including Jamie Woon, Moodymann, Krept and Konan, Kenny Dope, Hunee, Greg Wilson, Young Marco and more on the bill.

The fine artist, whose real name is Andy Prior, has been producing street art for more than 20 years and is known for having an “intuitive, direct connection” to his graffiti creations.

The Liverpool leg of the RBMA Tour will take place at some of the city’s most popular venues including Sefton Park Palm House, St George’s Hall and Camp and Furnace.

It will feature club nights, studio sessions, AV shows, art installations, radio broadcasts and intimate live lectures, featuring a wide range of genres from hip hop, grime and soul, to house, techno, garage and electro.
