Luxury hotel planned for Liverpool’s Fruit Exchange

Plans to convert Liverpool’s vacant Fruit Exchange into a luxury hotel have been revealed.

Built in 1888, the Grade II-listed building on Victoria Street was once the main trading point for fruit produce in the city.

Closed off to the public for years, JSM Group has now applied to Liverpool City Council to turn the building into a 92-bedroom hotel, complete with a bar and restaurant.

According to the planning application, the rooms will provide “luxury accommodation for couples, families and groups visiting the city centre”.

A document included with the proposals adds: “The main aim of the design is to bring life back in to a once very important building, this is to be achieved by restoring and redeveloping the existing and creating a luxury hotel in an important part of the city centre.”

If given the go-ahead, it’s understood the project will create 20 full-time jobs.

Urban explorer Jake Parr recently posted some eerie pictures from inside one of the Fruit Exchange’s auction rooms…
