Some of Merseyside’s biggest stars are set to decide which items should be included in a historic ‘Capsule of Culture’ after hundreds of ideas were submitted.

Announced last year by the operators of the Royal Liver Building experience and tour RLB360, the time capsule sponsored by MJ Quinn and Everkool, will remember one of the most pivotal and poignant years in world history. It will be permanently installed inside the Royal Liver Building.

Actress Kim Cattrall, Liverpool FC’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, boxer Tony Bellew and RU Paul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne are now preparing to decide what should be included.

Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Anna Rothery, Olympic Gold medalist Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief executive officer at Everton Football Club and Maria Breslin, the first woman editor of the Liverpool Echo, are also on the judging panel.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing lockdown, organisers at RLB360 have confirmed the capsule will be unveiled at a special, star-studded ceremony in April.

Peter Johnson-Treherne from Royal Liver Building 360, says: “We have been inundated with entries and over the next few weeks our judging panel will decide what should be included before the grand unveiling in April.

“The time capsule will mark the closing of one decade and the opening of a new one and will commemorate what has been one of the most significant years in world history.

“Items that reflect events such as the Black Lives Matter movement, the devastating bush-fires in Australia and of course the Covid-19 pandemic have been suggested.

“There’s also been more local suggestions such as the 80th birthday of John Lennon and regional celebrations of VE Day. Our judging panel wants to remember the big moments of 2020 as well as the occasions that have contributed to the culture and history of Liverpool during 2020.

“The Capsule of Culture will be on display in the world famous Royal Liver Building permanently once it is unveiled in April. We are grateful to everyone who has suggested ideas as well as our sponsors MJ Quinn and Everkool.”

Ru Paul Drag Race UK winner, The Vivienne, adds: “I am honoured to be on the judging panel for the Capsule of Culture and look forward to revealing what we’ve chosen to be inside later this year.”

Boxer Tony Bellew adds: “It is fantastic to be part of this. So much happened in 2020 that will be remembered forever.”
