Residents could benefit from a Merseyside-wide scheme to help locals switch energy supplier and take advantage of cheaper tariffs.
Organised by the Energy Projects Plus charity in partnership with local authorities, the Merseyside Collective Switch uses collective buying power to secure exclusive deals with service providers.
The scheme has delivered six rounds of switching so far and customers have until midnight on Monday 31 October to sign up for this phase and take advantage of the latest offers.
The initiative has attracted suppliers large and small, such as British Gas, E.on, and Ovo, and has included fixed tariffs, tariffs for ‘payment on receipt of bill’ customers and tariffs for prepayment meter users.
Councillor Bernie Mooney, Wirral Council cabinet member for environment, says: “Switching your energy tariff is a really quick and simple way to save money. If you haven’t switched for more than 12 months, you may be on your supplier’s most expensive tariff.
“The Merseyside Collective Switch is run by a local charity, is open to everybody, and there’s lots of support available. The deals are often market beating and therefore cheaper than you can find elsewhere. I want everyone to register and find out how much you could save.”
More than 7,000 people are said to have taken part in the Merseyside Collective Switch, making average savings of £311 a year.
