Great Britain’s Beijing 2008 Olympic bronze medallist Cassie Pattern will join competitors in the water at this year’s Liverpool International City Swim.

The brand new open water swimming event is centred around the Endurance Show North West at ACC Convention Centre during the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon weekend.

Cassie becomes the second Olympiad to sign up for the swim on 28 May after Grant Turner, who competed for Team GB at London 2012, was confirmed.

Participants have the choice of two distances, the half-mile ‘Sprint’ and the one-mile ‘Classic’. Both routes get underway in Queens Dock heading through Wapping Dock, then into Dukes Dock, past the Wheel of Liverpool and the Beatles Story before finishing next to the Echo Arena.

The open water swim is seen as a good opportunity to tackle the same course as the National Triathlon Championships which take place in August.

Competitors will be joined in the city by thousands of runners who are competing in this years Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon which takes place on the same weekend.
