Parking bay street gardens plan to revitalise Bold Street

Bold Street could get San Francisco-style benches and gardens in parking bays under ambitious new plans by Liverpool BID Company.

The BID Company is investigating ways to increase the greenery on the street, which has become an independent hub for restaurants from around the world. The plans include converting parking bays into seating areas with plants to brighten up the street and increase the time people spend there.

The plan has proved popular in San Francisco, where streets cannot be fully pedestrianized, and is seen as an ideal way to boost Bold Street. The company wants to contact businesses to discuss costings and see if they can help with managing the spaces.

Bill Addy, Liverpool BID Company chief executive, says: “Bold Street continues to grow from strength to strength and the variety of shops opening shows just how attractive a trading environment the street is.

“The BID Company will continue to do its utmost to support, promote and improve the street’s appeal and we hope to have concrete developments in the next 3-6 months on both the seating proposals and waste management issues.

With a record 24 new businesses in 24 months and venues such as Mowgli Street Food, Nolita Contina, Bakchich and Raggas, the plans could transform Bold Street into a business and recreation hub to rival any in the world.
