Quirky Quarter is celebrating five years in Liverpool with a series of new immersive additions, refreshed spaces and expanded event capabilities.
Since opening in early 2020, the Duke Street visitor attraction has operated as a hands-on, illusion-based experience featuring interactive installations and participatory challenges.
The venue was founded by a group of friends led by Merseyside-born David Hartshorn. The concept centred on creating a space designed primarily for adults, encouraging play and interaction.
Hartshorn, who spent several years travelling internationally, chose Liverpool as the location for the business, citing a longstanding personal connection to the city.
The attraction opened shortly before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following temporary closures and restrictions, the team adjusted operations and continued to develop the site. It now occupies more than 12,000 sq ft and attracts visitors across a range of age groups.
Recent additions include a mirrored room designed and constructed in-house. The space combines mirrored surfaces with digital projections to create an immersive visual environment.
The venue has also expanded its events facilities. It now incorporates a dedicated conference and event area, including a room with capacity for up to 50 seated guests or 80 standing. The site’s total floor space, bar and lounge facilities allow it to accommodate corporate functions, private events and other bookings.
Other updates include changes to the internal layout, additional illusion artworks by local artists, and upgraded lighting and visual effects. Installations and displays are periodically refreshed, often aligned with seasonal themes or city events.
In 2025, the attraction received the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, placing it within the top 10% of attractions listed globally on the platform. It currently holds a 4.9 rating on Tripadvisor and 4.8 on Google.
Peter Davis, general manager at Quirky Quarter, says: “Quirky Quarter has always been about creating something different – somewhere people can step out of the ordinary, have fun and see things from a new perspective.
“Five years on, we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built. We’ve continued to invest, evolve and work with local creatives to keep the experience fresh. Liverpool has been at the heart of that journey, and we’re excited to keep growing and surprising people.”
