Sefton Park’s Grade II*-listed Palm House has received Heritage Lottery Funding to help support its future.

The Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust, which has operated the iconic glasshouse since 2001, will use the £69,000 grant in a variety of ways including helping to maintain the venue’s significant plant collection.

The trust will also commission consultants to evaluate performance and to advise on how to improve both business and help with fundraising activites. The one-year transitional grant provides for researching and purchasing software to support the trust’s work.

Andrew Brown of ABW Architects and chair of the trust, says: “We are thrilled to have received the support of Heritage Lottery Fund to help us face new financial challenges and develop strategies that will make us more self-sufficient and secure the future of the Palm House.

“The Heritage Lottery supported the initial restoration of Sefton Park Palm House and this grant shows its confidence in the work of the trust. Hiring the Palm House helps fund these events but we do need your support as well.”

The trust was set up in 1996 as a registered charity to manage the Palm House and run it’s programme of free and subsidised community events.

Andrew adds: “Although the Heritage Lottery Fund grant is certainly excellent news it’s essential that we continue to maximise our fundraising efforts to ensure that the Palm House remains open to the public for many years to come.”
