Sound City+ reveals more guest speakers

Sound City+ has announced a host of new guests, talks and panels for its 10th anniversary event in May.

The music industry conference, which is this year centered around the theme of revolution, has previously hosted high-profile keynote speakers including Mark E Smith (The Fall), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice).

In 2017, ‘The Revolution will be Televised’ panel will bring together Danny Fields (Ramones/Iggy and the Stooges), Nathan McGough (White Lies/Happy Mondays), Seymour Stein (Sire Records) and Sarah Brooksbank (Fat White Family/Bat for Lashes).

The panel will discuss the macro environmental and economic factors which led to key milestones through the development of rock ‘n’ roll such as The British Invasion, the rise of black music culture, punk and acid house, and the effect these musical upheavals had on the formation of some of the world’s most influential acts.

Meanwhile acclaimed DJ Greg Wilson has been added to the ‘In Conversation’ line-up, Greg will be chatting alongside author of ‘Life and Death on the New York Dancefloor 1980 – 1983’ Tim Lawrence about the revolution of dance music, and the impact this has had on the electronic music today.

Sound City+ will take place at Camp & Furnace on 26 May.

The main Sound City 2017 festival will take place at Clarence Dock 25-28 May. Last month a clutch of new acts were announced for the three-day event including lo-fi indie-rockers The Cribs.
