Liverpool’s Three Queens event promises to be nothing short of spectacular when Cunard’s iconic Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth ships sail into the Mersey over the bank holiday weekend. We’ve picked out some eateries which are perfectly placed so that you won’t miss a thing.

 

The Thistle Liverpool

The Thistle is pulling out all the stops for the Three Queens weekend, and with its Vista Restaurant and Vu Bar and Terrace boasting views over the Mersey it’s easy to see why. During the festivities Vista is serving a range of special afternoon tea menus, each named and themed around the Cunard ships. Alternatively, soak up the atmosphere from the Vu Bar with drinks, snacks and platters.

 

Cargo

This waterfront restaurant is somewhat of a hidden gem, but with its floor to ceiling windows facing the Mersey it’s well positioned for serving up a delicious meal without taking you away from the action. Plus, it’s lining up a Three Queens special pre-fixed menu featuring something for everyone, with Mediterranean meat, fish and vegetarian options.

Home Woodside

How about watching the memorable occasion with the city skyline as a backdrop? With panoramic views of the waterfront, Home offers a fabulous view any day of the week but is making the most the spectacle. The venue is selling tickets for those who want to enjoy champagne and canapés while watching the Sunday night’s fabulous fireworks.

 

Panoramic 34

Why not splash out and watch the Three Queens in style, with a meal or cocktails at one of the UK’s highest restaurants. Situated in the West Tower, Panoramic 34 boats spectacular views of the river Mersey and Docks, so you’re sure to get a great view. There’ll be no need to worry about peering over people’s heads as you’ll be higher than everyone else in this venue. Bookings will be hard to come by, however, with many time slots sold out.

 

Tate Liverpool

How about soaking up some culture whilst you watch the ships sail by? Tate Liverpool is offering an afternoon tea on Sunday 24^th May for £18.95 per person. The food will be served in the first floor Clore Studio, so you can enjoy the magnificent views over the river. Afternoon tea will include Prosecco and an array sandwiches and cakes.

 

30 James Street

This hotspot and its Carpathia Champagne Bar and Restaurant offers a range of views from the top of the historic building. Once the headquarters for The White Star Line, this building was competitive with rival Cunard, so where better to enjoy and remember the 175^th anniversary of the three Cunard Queens?

 

Matou

You can’t really get much closer to the action than this. Situated on the second floor of Liverpool’s new ferry terminal, this restaurant boasts 360 degree views of the waterfront. It has an outside terrace with a capacity of 300, but if it’s a rainy weekend, there are also river view seats in the main dining area.

 

The Pump House

If it’s a quick bite or a couple of drinks you want then this is the place for you. The iconic pub is placed right in the heart of the docks, and will offer superb views of the ships. Its large outdoor patio is sure to be bustling, so where better to have a drink whilst watching the Three Queens sail by.

 

Crosby Beach

If you’re looking to escape the crowds then why not get some fish and chips and eat al fresco on Crosby Beach? The Queen Mary 2 will sail past here around 7am-7.30am on Sunday 24^th May, and on the Monday all three will sail past from around midday.

 

Marine Point – New Brighton

With a variety of restaurants this view is best for even the pickiest eater. From tapas at La Tasca to Pizza at Pizza Express, this option offers something for everyone. And with excellent views of the River Mersey, you’re sure to get a good glimpse of the ships.

 

Oh Me Oh My

Although closed on the weekend, this secret space will provide excellent viewing for Monday 25^th May when the three ships join together. It offers breakfast, sandwiches and an array of lunch plates. So if you’re looking for somewhere quiet, this hidden space would be hard to beat.
